The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has directed cleanup work on Pit F at the Ascon Landfill Site. The removal action is to excavate the Pit F waste materials within an area 45 feet wide by 45 feet long by 30 feet deep, inside the large white tent visible near Magnolia Street on the east side of Ascon. DTSC is hosting an online community webinar on May 6 and the Pit F work will begin in June.

This work will be conducted by a specialized team of hazardous waste professionals using equipment specifically designed for the safe removal, transportation, and disposal of waste materials. The tent will maintain a vacuum environment and emissions from excavation inside the tent will be collected and treated by an air treatment system during the entirety of the Pit F excavation work, including during off-hours.

Read more details about the Pit F work in the Community Update and in the Frequently Asked Questions. On Monday morning, April 19, an additional explainer about Pit F work will be posted with our weekly field update.
