The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has approved a pause in Ascon offsite air monitoring while there is no excavation work occurring onsite. Offsite air monitoring has been paused as of yesterday, October 10, 2023. Monitoring will resume during the final Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) Pre-treatment pilot test excavation work, currently planned for October 24. After this final pilot work, the trailers will be removed from the neighborhood until restart work begins, at which time offsite air monitoring will resume.
Air quality monitoring data gathered since September 2019 shows air quality has been safely below health-protective screening levels, including during active work. Onsite air monitoring at the site perimeters will not be paused, and continues 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We will continue to keep the community updated as pilot work ends and we work towards the final remediation restart. Learn more at asconhb.com.
